Stage Clear VII: Adventure on the High Seas
We're running slightly long this week at a little over 50 minutes as Perrin and Rob get into a rambly discussion about the ins and out of video game piracy. It's taken us 7 weeks longer than we expected to actually have some serious on air disagreements but who knows if it was worth the wait?
In bollocks of the week we take a look at a storm in a tea cup brewing over Tale of Tale's The Path and generally talk a load of the same kind of rubbish we do every week. Why are you still downloading this rubbish?
Enhanced iTunes M4A version (25.4MB)
Normal MP3 Version (23.4MB)
iTunes Users: I screwed up the time stamp on the last episode, so if you've grabbed that already iTunes think it's from April. This means your iTunes won't auto download new episodes for the next few weeks. You'll have to manually hit the download button. Sorry about this.
Reader's question for next week: If you could bring back one old forgotten game or franchise you loved and feel has now been forgotten what would it be? Answers in the comments thread please. Best answer wins +4 self esteem!

There are many games that I
There are many games that I wish were revamped such as THIEF 2, Monkey Island (in the HDs) or the TIE fighter games. But the winner would have to be MARBLE MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: piracy
You know in the movie trailers they have saying 'you wouldnt steal a car!' which clearly is 100% relatable to downloading a song or film from the internet and not a broad stroke AT ALL...
Does that mean If I *do* steal a car that they are perfectly fine with my downloading of media and in fact encourage it?
@ Spunky - I disagree, they
@ Spunky - I disagree, they had much more interesting things to discuss this week so jokes weren't really needed. I think you should go back and listen to One Life Left's past shows and see how irritating it is when every moment is spent looking for the next punch line.
So when are Stage Clear fans going to be added to the list?
From what was said I was expecting more fireworks but it was a good discussion with two good points of view.
Game to bring back:
I know they had a couple of lackluster revivals but surely Micro Machines has some life in it?
I've still got some of this
I've still got some of this weeks podcast to listen to (I've made it up to The Path), but it's lunchtime so I'll take this opportunity to compliment you on your piracy discussion - it was a lot more balanced and constructive than most things I've heard and also managed to inform me too! I hope you're not too shocked by a sincere compliment.
I think Rob makes some good points because it's possible to bring people back out of piracy and it's happening more and more these days. I also think it's a good thing for gamer's happiness as you also said - when you have that many games, there's no room for love to bloom.
On piracy/terrorism, it is nonsense but not entirely untrue. One example is the old days of pirate videos on market stalls. Coming from Northern Ireland, it was well known the many of the dodgy videos you'd get at the Sunday market were part of the fundraising operations by infamous organisations. Of course that has nothing to do with piracy today, they just like sticking it in the warning to make you feel guilty.
Old Game: It's a crime that nothing was ever done (as far as I am aware) with Cannon Fodder. I tried to take up Flash once to make a tribute, but became employed and stopped.
I quite like the idea of a
I quite like the idea of a remake of Kid Chameleon, I barely remember playing it but it was fantastic when I did. I played it alongside the comic strip that was published around then and it made it all the better.
The idea of some very creative people coming along and making up a fun yet potentially dark game makes me happy, sure it's more than a little tron sounding, but theres plenty of room there for both fun and a slight pastiche of games as a whole given the virtual reality setting the game has.
Actually it occurs to me that this is almost what Ben 10 is, I'm slowly begining to feel deep shame for thinking of it now...
First of all, it sounds
First of all, it sounds really bad when you read from bullet points! Stop doing it!
Secondly, in answer to your question, I would bring back Gears of War 2 from the dead! It's been far too long, man, far too long! Seriously though, I would love to see the return of some old mega drive games that I was fond of back in the day, such as Dynamite Headdy and Decap-Attack. They both displayed different senses of humour and recently appeared on Segas Classics collection released on the Xbox. I would sorely love to see these games return to our current (or perhaps even the next) generation of consoles.
Fun, and Serious. The first 6
Fun, and Serious. The first 6 episodes have had a 75% funny with 25% serious edge. I think in this episode thats reversed. I like both! Starting at the beginning, i listened and laughed, and as the podcasts have gone on i've thought more and more about the subject.
On episode 6, i wanted to put in my 2 pence just cause i thought it was a really interesting discussion, but saved you form my bad English because A) my opinion sucks and B) theres no voice post and i hate typing discussion points!
With episode 7, i was twitching not being able to contribute to the piracy discussion and found the whole thing really interesting. Not funny but still good.
LONG STORY SHORT! Serious subjects need more funny... don't get anymore serious! ... Yeah
p.s. the you should play/should not play were awesome :D
Interesting question this
Interesting question this week I like it.
My game of choice would be Insector X a child fave of mine but more importantly my mothers, when I was young I would sit and play on my beloved Sega Mega drive and then once it began to get late I would be rushed off to bed so my Mam could sit up and play Insector X, I believe that to be her only experience with gaming, though to her rescue she actually got further than I ever did. Until I downloaded the rom years later and had the power to save whenever I fancied...
Anyways the reason I would like to see this awakened from its tomb would not only be for me because I loved it, but to get my mam into games again, it would be a great sight.
I don’t think it should totally redeveloped as a next gen game, but perhaps HD-erised into the XBL arcade updated with new visuals and such. Cause in my eyes why fix something that isn’t broken.
