Nearly a month since we promised it but we finally take a look at gaming fan works. Who knew you guys could be creative, well not you guys. Let's face it if you're listening to this you're probably not doing anything worthwhile. We also slag off moaning PC gamers, and introduce a new feature all about the lovely world of indie gaming.

It's totally not a gaming
It's totally not a gaming podcast but In Our Time with Melvyn Bragg pure gives me the chub.
Anyway, I wonder if Gamewank even counts as a gaming podcast. It's mainly an excuse for cretinous sketch faux-comedy and the shameless homoerotic tension between me and Ric, people only listen to see if we'll fuck. Y'know what? Gamewank is the Moonlighting of gaming podcasts.
TBH I don't listen to many gaming 'casts, as a disproportionate number of them rigidly follow the format of having 3-5 cunts choking on headset mics about gears of fucking war for 90 minutes. Australian Gamer was sort of alright-ish until it became a prickish bi-weekly defense of Game Damage (which was pretty indefensible) and yet another extra curricular Yahtzee project that made me hate him even more.
Seriously. It really hurts when you find out one of your heroes is just the exact kind of hatted wanker that litters Edinburgh pubs with boorish banter and punchable faces.
Additionally, the question burning in the seldom oiled wok of my mind is - are yooz intae Aztec Camera? And if ye read this oot, are ye gawnae attempt tae do the accent? Laddie, etc. Fuck sake, I'm technically welsh.

Re: Getting Up. It's a great game IF you know about graf and it's history. If you don't you have no basis to comment on it. It's like Dave calling Brutal Legend shit because he doesn't like metal. GU is a graf fans wet dream, I used to do pieces when I was younger, I knew the history, I still have the glossy coffee table books full of the stuff. If your only exposure to it was attending a Banksy exhibition at the Tate Modern, forget it!
Re: Podcasts. I listen to a lot, the ones I listen to as soon as theyre out are the CAGcast and The Weekly Geek. CAGcast is the only show that makes me LoL all the time. They talk little about games and more about their own lives, Cheapy is a big Howard Stern fan and that shines through. WG is a show where they talk general geek culture, not just games, and their friendship carries the show as a lot of casts tend to have hosts who barely tolerate each others company.
The big shows like 1Up, Giantbomb etc... They come across like they consider themselves celebrities. RebelFM and Respawn Radio are right on the cusp of that style that I can tolerate as they are funny. Others I like are Gamers With Jobs and ALWW, although ALWW needs to quit the annoying and unnecessary musical interludes... But they are both the most informative and intelligent shows out there.
And then there's Gamewank and Stage Clear ;)

Anyway, onto the meat and potatoes of this post:
I'm very interested to hear what you have to say about ODST, because I'm fucking sick of Master Chief but love the Halo Universe when it doesn't resort to "Master Chief being manly and making things explode", and I very much enjoyed the multi-layered story (even if one of those stories was "Dude goes around and picks up MacGuffins" for most of it).

A note on translation projects, a couple of recent successful ones:
Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden

The whole PS1 game, translated. This one was years in the making, vanished off the planet for a year, then turned up finished. Needs more publicity since (most of the) SRW games are both well crafted strategy and massive fanwank for anyone familiar with any mech shows.
Namco x Capcom

This is less of a well crafted strategy game and more along the lines of fanwank, but still kinda fun for a bit if a guilty pleasure. Still, as a technical accievement it scores high, being a PS2 game.
Only other thing is to say you're the only gaming podcast I listen to, which, I admit only started because I know you guys, but if you were crap I wouldn't bother to continue.

Yeah I was going to talk about those two projects too, they were the other two on my list but didn't want to dwell on it too long. I hope they do finish doing some more work on the Namco X Capcom one because the english in the current release is awful. And I was very glad to see a Robot Wars game translated into English because i've played a whole bunch of them in japanese with no idea what was going on.

The only gaming podcasts I listen to now is you guys, a life well wasted (occasional) and penny arcade (even more occasional, and now they just talk about D&D all the time). Face it guys, you're the best gaming podcast I listen to. Think about that.
